The Accelerated Reader (AR) program offers students a chance to self-select reading material that is both appropriate to their reading ability and challenging enough to promote reading growth. Incentives for and recognition of reading achievement are provided in the individual classrooms as well as school-wide. Quarterly reading point goals are set by the AR Committee and a movie celebration is held for all students who achieve their nine week goals. Information about the point goals is posted each period on the bulletin board outside the office, and in each classroom. Following is listed the books on the Hills AR Reading List. The listing is in two forms - one Alphabetical By Title, and the other by Readability Level. Parents/students may check out any of these books at a public library and the child may take the computer quiz at school .CAUTION: BE SURE TO KNOW THE AR READING LEVEL(ZPD) FOR YOUR CHILD AND SELECT BOOKS WITHIN THAT RANGE TO QUALIFY HIM/HER FOR THE MOVIE REWARD. Your child's teacher can provide you with the ZPD if needed.
