Kids Incorporated

"Kids Inc." is a business created by the fourth grade students.  This year we are celebrating 9 years of dedication to our community with a total of $12,500 raised.  During this time students learn about production and entrepreneurship by designing, creating, marketing, and budgeting costs of a newly invented project.  The students build the business from the ground up.  In addition to donating our profits to a local charity, we have established a $500 scholarship fund in which one graduating senior from Indian Creek High School, who has completed the Kids Inc. program, is eligible to receive.

Hills Choir

Students in grades 4-6 are eligible to be a part of the Hills Choir.  The choir meets every Tuesday and Thursday before school from 8:15-8:45.  They have at least three performances including the Veteran's Day program, a Christmas concert, and a concert at the mall.  The highlight of our year, for the past several years, has been to sing the Star Spangled Banner at a Wheeling Nailers hockey game.

START

The Hills mentor program is off to a great START.  Kathie Burns, START Coordinator is pleased to have over 50 mentors this year.  Students in grades 1-3 are receiving one-on-one instruction in Reading and Language Arts.  Anyone wishing to volunteer should call Mrs. Burns at Hills.

Parenting for Literacy

Families, parents, friends, and teachers all want children to be successful readers. Parents and caregivers already do a lot of things at home to develop children's reading skills. In Games Parents Play, we invite you to try several reading games that you can use every day with children. In A Look in the Classroom, you are going to visit classrooms and see what teachers are doing that supports and extends what you do at home. We recommend that you begin with Games Parents Play.
