Reopen 2020-2021

2020 Responsible Restart

On Friday, July 17, 2020, Dr. Chappelear released a video giving a broad picture of what the start of the 2020-2021 school year may look like.
In the plan, we outlined three educational delivery scenarios that may be in play as we navigate the COVID-19 era:
  • Face to Face instruction with an online option for students/parents that aren't comfortable returning to the building at the start of school
  • Hybrid Model: A combination of in-person and online education
  • Indian Creek Remote Learning 2.0:  Fully online education for all

Families will have the choice of enrolling their student in the Indian Creek Remote Learning 2.0 OR keeping their student in whichever plan Indian Creek Schools is operating under.  Parents will not have a choice between Face to Face or Hybrid.

Also, students enrolled in Remote Learning 2.0 will still be eligible to participate in Indian Creek's many extra-curricular activities.

Our plan also outlines the health and safety measures that will be put in place to deliver face to face instruction. Facemasks will be required for students and staff. Students are encouraged to bring their own mask.

Please understand that while we feel confident that we can provide the time and support for students to be successful utilizing this plan, we would much rather be starting the school year as we have in the past. I think we all understand that this year is going to be different and we appreciate everyone's patience and flexibility as we continue through these uprecedented times.

Face to Face with an Online Option

At this time, we plan to start the school year with face to face instruction, all students 5 days per week. The following safety precautions will be in place for this delivery model:
  • Health checks, including temperature, each morning
  • Face masks or covernings required for staff and students
  • Physical distancing guidelines followed with 6 feet of separation when possible
  • Hand sanitizer available in every classroom
  • Cleaning supplies to sanitize work areas will be available throughout the day
  • Lunchroom space expanded to other areas
  • No visitors or volunteers
  • No shared student supplies
  • No lockers
  • One-way hallways when possible
  • Breakfast grab and go
  • No field trips
  • No large group student events
  • Supplies will be provided for PK - 4 at no cost to parents

If you and/or your students are not comfortable returning face to face, you can utilize our online option.  Students using our Indian Creek Remote Learning 2.0 must register. Once enrolled online, high school students must remain online through the first semester which is December 31. Students in grades K - 8 must remain online through the second quarter which is January 15, 2021.

After either the first semester or second quarter is complete, students will have the opportunity to either go back to face-to-face learning OR remain enrolled online learning for the remainder of the year.

At this time, our plan is to have our teachers teaching our curriculum and using our assessments for Remote Learning 2.0.  It should look and feel almost the same as the face-to-face model.

The registration for Remote Learning 2.0 is available HERE. Completing this registration form does not lock you into the online option.  As we get closer to the start of the school year, we will send out a final confirmation form that will indicate your official decision to utilize Remote Learning 2.0.

Hybrid Model of Education

In the Hybrid Model, only 50% of the students will in attendance at one time. This plan allows for a reduced number of students in the buildings while providing a combination of in-person and online learning. Students will be divided into Group A (Last Name beginning A - L) and Group B (Last Name beginning M - Z) by families and households.  The first week, Group A would attend in person Monday - Wednesday - Friday and Group B would attend Tuesday - Thursday.  The next week, Group B would attend in person Monday - Wednesday - Friday and Group A would attend Tuesday - Thursday.  This rotation would continue as long as we would be utilizing the Hybrid Model of Education. On days at home, students will work on assignments or tasks assigned during the in-person days.

Remote Learning 2.0

Remote Learning 2.0 will consist of students participating in online learning utilizing Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams, Zoom and/or the standard district curriculum online.  This will be different than our remote learning 1.0 where our emphasis was on suggested practice.

In remote learning 2.0 teaching and learning will continue at high levels and the expectations will be the same as if students were in a face to face setting.

The district will likely utilize this option if the county reaches a COVID-19 Indicator Level Purple.
